On 27 january 1880 edison was granted a patent for his electric light bulb. This lamp in the science museum collection was made one year after joseph swan s original 1878 1879 electric light bulb. Based on this new invention edison and a team of financial backers developed a new company called the edison electric light company. He made his first demonstration of the light bulb in melno park on december 31st 1879.
